Dennis snaps up photography magazine

Dennis Publishing has acquired monthly photography magazine Digital SLR Photography for an undisclosed sum.

The magazine, owned by Halo Publishing, will be the first photography title in the Dennis portfolio which includes lads' mag Maxim, digital magazines Monkey and iGizmo and technology titles Computer Shopper and PC Pro.

The SLR staff of eight, including the editor and co-founder, Daniel Lezano, will become Dennis employees but will stay at their current base in Peterborough.

Details of deal between Dennis and Halo over the transfer of ownership have not been made public.

Launched in 2006, Digital SLR Photography claims the magazine has a circulation of more than 20,000 through newsstand and subscription distribution.
Dennis plans to develop the magazine's subscriptions and digital publishing presence.

The SLR team will report into John Garewal, the deputy managing director of Dennis Publishing's technology division.

"The fast-growing SLR photography market represents an excellent opportunity for Dennis Publishing," said James Tye, the chief executive of Dennis Publishing.

"Digital SLR Photography is superbly put together and is a compelling and entertaining read: it was these high editorial standards that convinced me that the magazine should be part of our portfolio. I very much look forward to working with this talented team and making Digital SLR Photography a market-leading magazine and website in its sector."
