Sales up at mid-markets and tabs

The UK's daily mid-market and tabloid national newspapers had a good July, with all but the Daily Mirror posting month-on-month circulation rises.
July was a busy news month, with major stories including the floods, the aftermath of the attempted terrorist attacks in London and at Glasgow airport, and prime minister Gordon Brown's first weeks in charge.
The Daily Mail recorded the largest boost in the daily mid-market and tabloid sector, recording a 4.2% month-on-month increase to 2,400,143 copies, and a slight year-on-year increase of 10,907, according to the latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulation.
A spokeswoman for the Mail also credited the boost to "unprecedented customer demand" for its The World at War DVD promotion, which was extended to run for three weeks.
The Daily Express saw a 3.1% month-on-month increase to 794,252, but dropped 4.67% year on year from 833,145.
The Sun rose 2.1% from June to 3,128,829. But this was a fall of 2.45% from its July 2006 circulation of just over 3.2m.
The Daily Star saw a 2.02% month on month rise in circulation to 811,988 in July. This figure represents a 1.86% year-on-year increase to from 797,132.
The Daily Mirror was the only newspaper in the tabloid and mid-market sector to record a fall last month, with circulation dropping slightly by 5,838 copies from June, a fall of 0.37% to 1,559,873.
Since July last year, the paper has seen a 6.04% fall in circulation from 1,660,151 copies.
